Unique julep decorations on the UNESCOS cultural heritage list
This beautiful glass jewellery is produced by a family business located in a small village in the Czech Republic. They produce original and beautiful Christmas decorations from glass beads - a tradition they have kept since 1902. In fact, it is the last place in the world to work with and keep alive these old traditions.
The tradition of mouth-blowing glass beads is an ancient tradition in the area around this village. In the early 20th century, more than 400 families in the area made their living by producing glass beads and jewellery from them. It was also in the 20th century that festive decorations began to be made from the glass beads, which in the past were mostly used for jewellery, brooches and more for fancy people and theatre costumes. Who first came up with the idea of putting glass beads on strands and shaping them into festive decorations is not known, but it is known that the decorations have been made for more than 100 years and that over the years the glass beads have been hand-blown, silvered, coloured and shaped to create the most beautiful decorations.
The craftsmanship behind the decorations is so rare and unique that they have been inscribed on the UNESCOS Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
